Volleyball Court Area Cordoned Off

The spot on China Cove’s beach that was approved for a volleyball court has been cordoned off — but it’s not clear when poles and a net will be in place.

Members of the Coastal Commission unanimously approved the court at their March meeting. The beach had previously had a court since the 1980s, but when it broke and the players asked to move it, Newport Beach officials realized the court never had proper permits. Some residents opposed the court, stating that it caused problems with compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as problems with noisy players who used the beach for a bathroom.
